Aya Kakeda was born and raised in Tokyo Japan.
She now works and lives in Brooklyn, New York.
She likes Cats, seals , and receiving postcards and she has ever changing weekly obsessions, now it's
Clavariaceae and star nosed mole.
She also elaborates lots of theories about lot of things.
When she doesn't indulge in her obsessions she paints and draws, creating her own whimsical narratives.
Most of her artwork explores themes of modern femininity, utopia and nature as metaphor. She intentionally reference traditional crafts and evidence of the hand-made is important to me. She makes paper outcuts, drawings and paintings.

"The influence of my work mainly comes from media. I grew up watching
lots and lots of television. My work revolves around pop culture, fun
and excitment. However, when people see my work, they do not see
"bumble gum hyper japanese things". Although it is filled with these
images, I could not let go of my darker, more depressed nature. It
may be because of loosing my mother to depression, or a simple crushed
heart. Whatever it is, there was always a taste of darkness in my work.
People have different ways of coping with such tragedies. I've learned
to cope through drawing. My color pallete has changed from dark muted
tones to those of pastel colors. The medium has also changed, from
heavy arcylics to the more light, colorpencils.
Working with children has also played an integral part in my life as an
artist. I've learned to not take life so seriously and just have fun
making images. Like a Pre Schooler wouldn't question his/her ability to
draw the human figure, I've learned to just draw for fun.
When people see my work, I would like them to see hope. We all go
through struggles in life, some bigger than others,...we are all
bombarded with images of dispair and destrcuction. Me? I just want to
draw something that will bring smiles, peace and healing to the

Ken Wong is a freelance artist/illustrator/designer from Australia. Currently working as Art Director of Spicy Horse Games, in Shanghai.
He's done visualisation and art direction work for computer games, comics, films and toys, for clients including Nival Interactive, Enlight Software, American McGee, Cosmos Magazine Australia, Art Asylum, Waxploitation Records and KingsIsle Entertainment. His works have appeared in the Spectrum and Exposé art annuals and a handful of magazines.
